Miguel Bonal is a Spanish viola da gamba player born in Zaragoza. Thanks to his parents, he began his musical studies of piano at the early age of four. At the age of seven he entered the Conservatorio Profesional de Música de Zaragoza to study viola da gamba.

At the age of 18, his passion and dedication for this instrument led him to study viola da gamba at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya, in Barcelona, under the tutelage of Emmanuel Balsa, graduating with honours. During these four years, he also began to study baroque cello at the same time.

In 2021, he moved to The Hague, the Netherlands, to pursue a master's degree in viola da gamba at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague with Mieneke van der Velden. He graduated with the highest marks and distinction, demonstrating "great virtuosity and musicality".

Miguel has been awarded in several national competitions, such as the Concurso de Juventudes Musicales España 2020 (where he received three prizes: First Prize, EMCY Prize and Úbeda and Baeza Festival Prize), and the Primer Palau 2021 (where he received one of the Áccesit, the Critics' Prize and the Catalunya Música Prize), held at the Palau de la Música Catalana. The Catalunya Música Prize enabled him to record his first solo album entitled "Del silencio a la emoción", which includes the arrangement of "Recuerdos de la Alhambra" by Francisco Tárrega.

"Miguel is destined to be one of the most outstanding string players of his generation".
