"Nymphs and Satyrs" is a recurring mythological and artistic theme explored by numerous authors across various artistic disciplines. These human-like characters are depicted in a fantastical setting within a dreamlike natural environment. Nymphs roamed through forests, mountains, rivers, and streams, where they often danced and played beautiful melodies. Satyrs were described as cheerful and mischievous creatures with human heads, horns, and goat legs, living in the woods. One of the most representative paintings is William-Adolphe Bouguereau's "Nymphs and Satyr," created in 1873, where several nymphs playfully capture a satyr, leading him towards the depths of the river. This program features a selection of pieces for two violas da gamba, exploring different languages and expressions, portraying mythical natural environments and stimulating creative imaginations capable of evoking these ancestral figures.
